Architect of Record, Construction Documents: GGLO

D+A Studio provided schematic design and design development for 123 West. 123 West is a new mixed-use development in Downtown Friday Harbor. The project consists of six detached and semi-detached studio condominiums, with approximately 7,000 SF above eight commercial tenant spaces, each approximately 8,000 SF. Anna worked with the developer over a number of years coordinating with the city and developing a site plan.

The commercial spaces face an internal open space which provides a terraced pedestrian connection from West Street down to Front Street. Below the level of the commercial spaces and the open space approximately nine parking stalls will be provided and accessed from Front Street. The scale and design of the buildings addresses the surrounding context and urban design needs of Friday Harbor.

The project provides a lively pedestrian connection, activated by retail, between West Street and the waterfront. New opportunities for public water views will be created along this new pedestrian corridor, along with highly desirable, view-oriented housing in the heart of Friday Harbor. The materials, finishes and elements will compliment the town fabric and incorporate sustainable design measures to set an example for future development in the San Juan Islands.
