San Juan Island, WA
A key design goal for this residence, perched on the Western edge of San Juan Island, was to create a cozy, inviting interior while framing the spectacular views of Victoria and the De Haro Strait.
The clients were ready to replace their 800 square foot residence with their dream house. Existing site and building elements, including foundation posts, rock walls, and exterior stairs, were preserved and utilized in the new design.
D+A Studio worked closely with the structural engineer, employing three different foundation systems to minimize disturbance of the steep slope. The result is an open, inviting plan that both appreciates and celebrates the site.
